When “To All the Boys” premiered on Netflix in 2018, Noah Centineo became a household name almost overnight. And like any overnight sensation, the offers started pouring in – sequels to the film, TV roles, and rom-coms. But recreating the success of “To All the Boys” has proved to be a challenge. Netflix’s own “Sierra Burgess Is a Loser” was criticized for its portrayal of catfishing, and the 2019 “Charlie’s Angels” reboot left audiences feeling underwhelmed. In 2022’s “Black Adam,” Centineo had a supporting role, but the film was a box office disappointment.
Centineo’s latest project, “The Recruit,” is an eight-episode series on Netflix in which he plays Owen, a lawyer who starts working for the CIA. Despite Centineo’s charm, the show lacks thrills and the tone fluctuates between irreverent and self-serious. The romance is not romantic, the sex is not sexy, and Centineo’s x-factor is all but stamped out. It seems that Hollywood just can’t seem to figure out what to do with Centineo. It’s not for lack of talent, but rather a lack of star vehicles that know how to utilize the actor’s charisma.
So what could be next for Noah Centineo? Here are a few ideas:
“Runaway Hearts”: In this romantic comedy, Centineo plays a young man who embarks on a cross-country adventure with a woman he just met, discovering love and adventure along the way.
“Love and Espionage”: In this action-packed thriller, Centineo plays a young spy who falls for a woman while on a mission to save the world.
“Addiction and Consequences”: In this dramatic series, Centineo plays a young man struggling with addiction and the impact it has on his life.
“Escape to Freedom”: In this action film, Centineo plays a prisoner fighting to clear his name and regain his freedom after being wrongly accused of a crime.
Until then, Centineo will just have to keep working and hoping for that breakout role that truly showcases his talents.
